Christmas Turkey Cooking Guidelines

Whole Turkey

All appliances vary; the following are guidelines only. Refer to the manufacturer’s handbook and adjust cooking time accordingly.

  1. Remove outer packaging and soak pad from the underside of the turkey.
  2. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4/ Fan assisted oven 170°C.
  3. Remove giblets from the neck flap area and the neck from the main body cavity. If stuffing, stuff only the neck flap and allow extra cooking time.
  4. Place the turkey in a roasting tin and cover loosely with foil. Cook in a preheated oven for 45 minutes per kg, plus an additional 20–30 minutes, basting frequently.
  5. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  6. The turkey is fully cooked if the juices run clear when pierced at the deepest part with a skewer or sharp knife. If juices are pink, continue cooking, checking every 15 minutes.
  7. Allow the turkey to stand for 15 minutes before carving. Ensure it is piping hot throughout before serving.
 

Turkey Crown

All appliances vary; the following are guidelines only.

  1. Remove outer packaging and soak pad from the underside of the crown.
  2. Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas mark 4, fan-assisted ovens 170°C.
  3. Place the crown in a foil tray and cover loosely with foil. Cook on the middle shelf for 45 minutes per kg, plus an additional 20–30 minutes.
  4. Remove the foil for the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  5. The crown is fully cooked if juices run clear when pierced at the deepest part with a skewer or sharp knife. If juices are pink, continue cooking, checking every few minutes.
  6. Ensure the product is piping hot throughout before serving. Allow to stand covered in a warm place for 15 minutes before carving.


Christmas Turkey FAQs

How do I order my turkey for Christmas?
  1. Sign In or Register: Start by signing into your SuperValu account or creating one if you’re a new user.
  2. Choose Your Slot: Go to the Welcome tab at the top of the page to select your preferred store, choose delivery or collection, and pick a date between 21st and 23rd December, along with a time slot.
  3. Add Items to Your Trolley: Use the search bar or browse through aisles to find your products. All turkey options are located in the Christmas section.
  4. Checkout: Complete the checkout process to confirm your order.

Important: Turkeys must be ordered by 8th December, and you will not be able to change your turkey selection after this date. On the day you place your order, we pre-approve your card to ensure it is valid. We will seek to authenticate (but not charge) 115% of the order value from your bank to cover your shop. This practice aligns with the EU Payment Services Directive. You will be charged on your delivery/collection date after your order has been picked in-store.

I can’t see any turkeys in my store. How can I order one?

Turkeys are available for online orders in select stores only. Please see the full list of participating stores here. If your store isn’t on the list, you can still pre-order a turkey by visiting your local SuperValu in person.

How will the Half Price Turkey voucher apply?

If you’re a Real Rewards member and have collected 500 turkey tokens, a half price turkey voucher will automatically be added to your account.

To use this voucher on your Christmas order, follow these steps:

  1. Modify Your Order: As your order date approaches, go to your account and select Modify Order.
  2. Apply the Voucher: In the Vouchers & Coupons section at checkout, locate the turkey voucher and click Apply. The discount will then appear in the Order Summary.
  3. Complete Checkout: Finish the checkout process to save your modified order with the applied discount.

Can I get my turkey delivered on Christmas Eve?

Unfortunately, home delivery for turkeys is only available on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of December. If you need your turkey specifically on the 24th, you can place an order in-store for collection on Christmas Eve.

Can I pre-order my Christmas ham online?

Currently, we don’t offer pre-orders for butchery hams. However, limited selections of pre-packaged ham will be available to add to your order starting from December 19th. Simply log in and modify your order at that time to include it.

Can I add items to my order after it has been placed?

Yes, you can modify your order even after it has been placed. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the confirmation email you received and click the “Modify Order” link at the top. Alternatively:
  2. On desktop, go to My Orders in the main navigation bar.
  3. On the app, select the My Orders tile on the main page.

Please note that turkey orders cannot be modified after 8th December, so ensure your selection is final by then. Once in your order, you can add or remove other products and apply Real Rewards vouchers or your half-price turkey voucher if eligible.

How late can I update my order?

You can modify your order until midnight on the evening before your selected delivery or collection date. However, turkey orders cannot be modified after 8th December, so please ensure your selection is correct before this date. Be sure to complete the checkout process to save any changes.

Can I collect my order from a different store?

Once your order is placed, you cannot change the store for collection. Please ensure you select your preferred store before completing your order. Note that turkey orders are final as of 8th December and cannot be changed or moved to another store after this date.
