D'Arenberg D`Arry`s Original Grenache Shiraz (75 cl), €19.00
Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member Chester makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery. Small batches of grapes are crushed gently and then transferred to open fermenters. Foot treading is undertaken two thirds of the way through fermentation, the wine is basket pressed and transferred to old French oak to complete fermentation and mature for 12 to 21 months. First released in 1969, this wine was renamed d'Arry's Original in 1993, in honour of third generation family member Francis d'Arenberg Osborn, universally known as d'Arry, to honour his lifelong services to the wine industry.

This region is the second oldest wine region in South Africa and is set in the heart of the Cape Winelands. A warm and dry growing season and a variety of soils results in the production of high-quality wines, mostly reds. Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well here. History is spoken through the mysterious drawings, 'Petroglyphs', that cover the rocky hillsides of Viña San Esteban, inspiring this modern creation, In Situ. Our vines grow alongside these drawings to create this blend of 90% Carmenere, 5 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah, a rich and silky wine that delivers an attractive nose with dark berries, pepper and forest scents. A unique wine to enjoy with teriyaki - based dishes, crispy duck or a juicy steak.

Traditionally, Garnacha has been the 2nd most planted grape variety throughout Rioja. The difficulty associated with producing high-quality Garnacha in Rioja has left locals referring to the grape as La Maldita (little cursed one). Due to low yields and a lack of profitability, a majority of growers have chosen to uproot their vineyards and to re-plant them with less demanding varietals. This wine aims to celebrate that heritage, and prove outstanding Garnacha can be made in Rioja. These grapes are sourced from old-vine, high altitude vineyards planted on pure gravel soils.

Our philosophy is to craft wines that are both ageworthy and fresh. To this end we take great pains to harvest grapes at optimum ripeness, and use minimal interference in the winery, thus allowing the quality of the fruit to speak for itself. The wine is a blend of 40% Carignan which lends both crispness and freshness to the wine, 30% Syrah for structure and body, and finally 30% Grenache for its intense blackberry aromas. The palate displays deep fruit flavours with perfectly balanced acidity and soft tannins, and can be enjoyed now or cellared for up to eight years. Perfect with grilled meats, particularly chargrilled steaks.
