Winemakers for generations, Family Sorges acquired Château Haut Médou in 1957. They started with only 6 hectares of vineyards and extended to more than 200 hectares in Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations. This region is the second oldest wine region in South Africa and is set in the heart of the Cape Winelands. A warm and dry growing season and a variety of soils results in the production of high-quality wines, mostly reds. Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well here. Our Eden Lodge Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant dark purple/ruby in colour with a rich ripe berry nose. Flavours of autumnal fruits follow along with hints of dark chocolate and spicy tones. Nugan Estate Scruffy's Shiraz (75 cl), €12.99
Scruffy works hard to keep our Shiraz bunches tight and our berries small and yields very low at around 4 tons per acre, which annoys our accountant. Daren Owers, our winemaker, insists on bunch sorting at harvest to make sure we only use the very best clusters. Most of the fruit is destemmed and pressed while a small portion is whole berry fermented. All parcels are kept separate during the winemaking process in our state of the art winery. We use a lot of smaller tanks as a result which is difficult, but necessary for the production of a quality wine. Pump overs and extended maceration times give us color and richness. We work with the best coopers and use a combination of French and American oak to mature this wine - 25% of which is new. Bench blending takes forever - there are so many variables and we return the final cuvee to tank for several months to come together before bottling. It's a lot of work and we really hope you enjoy the result. PS - This wine was sustainably farmed and produced in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint.

Bourgogne Pinot Noir Naudin Tiercin (75 cl), €18.99
To the eye, this Bourgogne Pinot Noir is richly coloured in its youth, then, with the age, shading towards dark ruby. To the nose it offers at first a basket of small red and black fruits (strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant, bilberry) later evolving into cooked prune and peppery notes. It is lively and structured in the mouth with a well-rounded and supple backbone.

Amarone This wine is obtained through a particular technique which is peculiar to Valpolicella area. Deep purple red, ripe fruits and luscious nose, full body, highly alcoholic yet so round to remind a certain natural sweetness. Amarone matches perfectly grilled red meat dishes and seasoned cheeses.

Location and terroir Over 200 km, between Vienne and Avignon, the Rhone Valley has the largest regional appellation after Bordeaux, it is also one of the oldest controlled designations of origin. It extends over 163 municipalities divided between six departments (Rhône, Loire, Drôme, Ardèche, Gard and Vaucluse). Our Côtes du Rhône is made with Young vines (less than 20 years old) located in the Vacqueyras appellation area from Stony soil composed of blue marls. Vinification/Aging The grapes are destemmed and vinified in stainless-steel vats for about 10 month revealing all the freshness and subtlety of his aromas. Grapes are: 55% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 35% Syrah. Tasting The robe is clear, ruby, and bright with darker colour reflect due to the Syrah. On the nose reminiscent of small red fruits, with animal or spicy notes or aromas of ripe fruit. It has well-structured but supple tannins. One of our favourite wines at the House of Goichot. Soft, easy drinking red in the classic style wich to us is red and blackberry fruit with a dusting of spice and chocolate notes. Perfect to drink on its own due to the soft warm style but a lovely match for anything from home made burgers to cold meat platters and classic roasts.

Aresti Mystique Mystery One Reserva Red Blend (75 cl), €14.99
Vinification The grapes in this Red Blend were carefully harvested and vinified. Fermentation took place under controlled temperature conditions between 25 and 27°C to preserve the freshness, smoothness and intensity of aromas. Following fermentation, 50% of the blend was aged in third fill or older French and American oak barrels for six months and the remainder was aged in stainless steel vats to preserve its fruity aromas.
Aresti Trisquel Gran Reserva Assemblage 4 Pack (75 cl), €63.96
Origin: Cabernet sauvignon, Syrah and petit Verdot make up this assemblage from the Curicó valley. Through the different vine stocks we were able to obtain complimentary characteristics to achieve a mature and concentrated wine of solid character. Winemaking: The whole harvest is handpicked between March and April of each year, once each variety ripens under the optimum conditions. Grapes are first brought to fermentation tanks and then to American and French oak barrels to attain maturity and complexity. The aging period that lasts between 8 and 12 months, depending on the variety, and followed by the blending process. Tasting Notes: This wine presents an intense, dark ruby red color. On the nose, it is complex showing fruity notes to plums and blackberries with flowery aromas combine with mocha and coffee hints from the barrel aging. Sweet and juicy in the mouth, it has nice structure and soft, ripe tannins.
