Sometimes you come across something special that leaves an impact. The gnarly old bush vines that bear the precious fruit that go to make this delicious wine were planted up to 100 years ago in the mountain vineyards of Atea. Struggling to survive in dusty, dry slate soils at an altitude of 1000 metres they have the ability to produce this amazing wine: deep blue-purple colour. Lifted perfumed aromas of flowers and fresh blueberry. Lush blackberry and cherry flavours cram the mid palate with an underlying spicy pepperiness. La Maldita Rioja Garnacha (75 cl), €10.00

Traditionally, Garnacha has been the 2nd most planted grape variety throughout Rioja. The difficulty associated with producing high-quality Garnacha in Rioja has left locals referring to the grape as La Maldita (little cursed one). Due to low yields and a lack of profitability, a majority of growers have chosen to uproot their vineyards and to re-plant them with less demanding varietals. This wine aims to celebrate that heritage, and prove outstanding Garnacha can be made in Rioja. These grapes are sourced from old-vine, high altitude vineyards planted on pure gravel soils.

From the warmest and oldest hills of our vineyards we have selected the best estates to harvest Tinta del País (Tempranillo) grapes at their optimal point of ripeness, which will provide this wine with complexity and balance. We have recovered our estate's historical 12th century caves, as a witness of vineyard and wine art for generations. An ageing process of 24 months in American and French oak barrels and 12 months in bottle help this wine blossom and conquer the most demanding palates. Natural sediments may appear over time because of its natural elaboration process and ageing in barrel and bottle.

Wine of great personality with a very appealing and covered cherry red color. It is intense on the nose, excelling the ripe fruit, spices and cocoa aromas from its stay in oak barrel for 36 months. On the palate it is a structured wine, with vivid and well assembled tannins. Long aftertaste, highlighting his round and elegant finish. Great with red meat, game dishes, roasted lamb, vegetables, meats and cheeses.
