Sometimes you come across something special that leaves an impact. The gnarly old bush vines that bear the precious fruit that go to make this delicious wine were planted up to 100 years ago in the mountain vineyards of Atea. Struggling to survive in dusty, dry slate soils at an altitude of 1000 metres they have the ability to produce this amazing wine: deep blue-purple colour. Lifted perfumed aromas of flowers and fresh blueberry. Lush blackberry and cherry flavours cram the mid palate with an underlying spicy pepperiness. Weighty without being overbearing it delivers a punch of juiciness that will leave your palate stunned!

Paarl is renowned for its scenic beauty, viticulture and fruit growing. Situated 60km north east of Capetown, it is an extremely important wine region in South Africa. Paarl enjoys a warm climate with a Mediterranean influence and has a mix of sandy, granite and shale soils. These factors coupled with the aspect of the Simonsberg Mountain provide great growing conditions for the Shiraz grape. This results in wines of great individuality and character. Our Eden Lodge Paarl Shiraz is full and powerful packed with rich blackberry flavours along with spice, plum and eucalyptus. A wonderful acompliment to hearty beef dishes.

The wine region of Stellenbosch is situated 50km east of Capetown. It is home to the historic town of Stellenbosch (which dates back to 1679) and the world famous University of Stellenbosch. This region is the second oldest wine region in South Africa and is set in the heart of the Cape Winelands. A warm and dry growing season and a variety of soils results in the production of high-quality wines, mostly reds. Cabernet Sauvignon performs exceptionally well here. Our Eden Lodge Cabernet Sauvignon is vibrant dark purple/ruby in colour with a rich ripe berry nose. Flavours of autumnal fruits follow along with hints of dark chocolate and spicy tones. Willow Hill Shiraz Cabernet (75 cl), €8.59

The Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested from the best slopes in the vineyards. They then undergo temperature controlled fermentation to preserve the pure fruit character. The wine, once fermented spends some time in oak barrels to add complexity and character to the final wine. The result is a rich full bodied wine with aromas of blackberries, chocolate and spice. The palate is full and round with ripe soft tannins, autumnal fruit, cassis and spicy oak. This is a great all round wine, superb on it own and a great match for traditional roast, tomato based pasta dishes and steak. Enjoy!
