Official records stretch back to 1608, when the area was granted its license to distil. Over 400 years later, whiskey is still being made in Bushmills, thanks to experience and craft passed down from generation to generation. We couldn't make our whiskey anywhere but here. Our water, drawn from the River Bush, flows over beds of basalt rock, the same rock that lends its unique character to another famous local attraction - the Giant's Causeway. Bushmills is more than just a whiskey. It's a village, where family, friends and neighbours work side by side at the distillery. As we often say, "without the village, there would be no whiskey and without the whiskey, there would be no village".

Packaging may vary. Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey is a tribute to our coopers, who painstakingly give their barrels an additional charring to reveal their untold richness and complexity. Charring is an age-old method for invigorating barrels to intensify the taste. Time spent maturing in these double-charred barrels lends our whiskey a unique richness, with more intensified notes of vanilla sweetness and caramel, alongside toasted wood, fruit, and warm spice. Jameson Black Barrel - triple distilled, twice charred, for a rich smooth taste. Jameson Black Barrel was the recipient of many accolades throughout 2019. Black Barrel was a finalist in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge scoring a very high 94 points. Black Barrel also received a double gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirit Competition. It also obtained a master award from TIWM.

It takes its name from the Liberties area of Dublin, a riotous quarter of the city known as ‘Hell' in the 1700s. By Day, Copper Alley in the heart of the Dublin Liberties rang to the cries of hawkers and tradesmen, tanners and merchants. By night, the pick pockets and cut throats plied their busy trade on these streets.

The single malt whiskey is then cut to 40% abv with naturally soft water and placed in double charred first fill Bourbon casks. The double charring process allows West Cork Distillers to produce a unique whiskey with accentuated vanilla, sweet caramel and honey attributes. These unique attributes from resting in double charred casks delicately complement the initial maturation in Bodega Sherry casks such as dried berries, green fruit and rich tannins.
