Details

Traders in salt and brandies in La Rochelle, on the Charente coastline, since the 17th century, when the waters of the River Charente were said to be "covered in swans", the Seignette family placed the graceful bird at the heart of their coat of arms.

Tasting notes
Colour: Pale gold with coppery highlights.
Nose: Dried apricot and vanilla with hints of honeysuckle.
Palate: Rounded and fleshy. Oaky vanilla notes, without bitterness. A touch of citrus (orange peel) in the long, creamy finish.
Overall: Balanced, with all elements in harmony. The richness and depth of flavour make Seignette VS an excellent choice for a cognac-based cocktail, as well as neat or on-the-rocks.
In 1804 Arzac Seignette founded his Cognac House, which rapidly became one of the leading brands of the 19th century.

The latin motto reads: "All things are done with sun and salt"
The Seignette cellars in La Rochelle c. 1840.

Jehan Seignette was born in 1592 in La Rochelle on the French coast, trading in the local salt which was credited with medicinal properties. His descendants developed the business into a world-famous brand, using a swan as their emblem.

With their wealth from the salt trade, the family bought vineyards to supply the growing cognac industry, leading to the foundation in 1804 by Arzac Seignette of his own cognac house.

Following Arzac his wife, daughter Elisa and granddaughter ran the company for over 50 years, making it a major player in America and England, until circumstances took it out of family hands in the late 19th century.
