Sometimes you come across something special that leaves an impact. The gnarly old bush vines that bear the precious fruit that go to make this delicious wine were planted up to 100 years ago in the mountain vineyards of Atea. Struggling to survive in dusty, dry slate soils at an altitude of 1000 metres they have the ability to produce this amazing wine: deep blue-purple colour. Lifted perfumed aromas of flowers and fresh blueberry. Lush blackberry and cherry flavours cram the mid palate with an underlying spicy pepperiness. Weighty without being overbearing it delivers a punch of juiciness that will leave your palate stunned!

Misty Bay Sauvignon Blanc grapes are carefully grown in idyllic vineyards of New Zealand. Bold and elegant aromatics of fresh cut lime, passionfruit and subtle hints of orange blossom. Intense tropical, citrus and gooseberry fruit flavours, delicately herbaceous with distinctive crisp acidity. This wine has all the typical characteristics of a well balanced New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

"Years ago, when I was just starting out as a winemaker, it was almost unheard of to get French oak wine barrels and American oak barrels were for whiskey, not wine. But we still needed barrels to age our wine, so we purchased new and used bourbon barrels. Today, American and French oak wine barrels are common place, so the inspiration for 1000 Stories is a nod to the way things were. We've selected new and used bourbon barrels for these small batches of Zinfandel, which impart characteristics specific to these barrels: charred vanilla, dried herbs and a hint of caramel." Willow Hill Shiraz Cabernet (75 cl), €8.99

The Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested from the best slopes in the vineyards. They then undergo temperature controlled fermentation to preserve the pure fruit character. The wine, once fermented spends some time in oak barrels to add complexity and character to the final wine. The result is a rich full bodied wine with aromas of blackberries, chocolate and spice. The palate is full and round with ripe soft tannins, autumnal fruit, cassis and spicy oak. This is a great all round wine, superb on it own and a great match for traditional roast, tomato based pasta dishes and steak. Enjoy!
