Winemakers for generations, Family Sorges acquired Château Haut Médou in 1957. They started with only 6 hectares of vineyards and extended to more than 200 hectares in Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations. Château Haut Médou has a deep red colour, with a rich nose of black fruits aromas. On the palate this wine has a well-balanced evolution with velvety mature tannins.

The gnarly old bush vines that bear the precious fruit that go to make this delicious wine were planted up to 100 years ago in the mountain vineyards of Atea. Struggling to survive in dusty, dry slate soils at an altitude of 1000 metres they have the ability to produce this amazing wine: deep blue-purple colour. Lifted perfumed aromas of flowers and fresh blueberry. Lush blackberry and cherry flavours cram the mid palate with an underlying spicy pepperiness. "Years ago, when I was just starting out as a winemaker, it was almost unheard of to get French oak wine barrels and American oak barrels were for whiskey, not wine. But we still needed barrels to age our wine, so we purchased new and used bourbon barrels. Today, American and French oak wine barrels are commonplace, so the inspiration for 1000 Stories is a nod to the way things were. We've selected new and used bourbon barrels for these small batches of Zinfandel, which impart characteristics specific to these barrels: charred vanilla, dried herbs and a hint of caramel." Aresti Mystique Mystery One Reserva Red Blend (75 cl), €10.00
Vinification The grapes in this Red Blend were carefully harvested and vinified. Fermentation took place under controlled temperature conditions between 25 and 27°C to preserve the freshness, smoothness and intensity of aromas. Following fermentation, 50% of the blend was aged in third fill or older French and American oak barrels for six months and the remainder was aged in stainless steel vats to preserve its fruity aromas.

A lovely very soft easy drinking classic French red. Made from the Gamay grape, unique to the Beaujolais region. Dry in style with delicate red berry fruits and a nice soft warm earthiness. Can even be served chilled and can be enjoyed with all but the very heaviest powerful red or white dishes.

To the eye, this Bourgogne Pinot Noir is richly coloured in its youth, then, with the age, shading towards dark ruby. To the nose it offers at first a basket of small red and black fruits (strawberry, cherry, blackcurrant, bilberry) later evolving into cooked prune and peppery notes. It is lively and structured in the mouth with a well-rounded and supple backbone.

Aglianico is a black grape grown in the southern regions of Italy, mostly Basilicata and Campania. It produces a full-bodied wine with firm tannins and high-acidity giving it good aging potential. This Aglianico is a dark, deep ruby red with enjoyable cherry and red berries fragrance followed by a marked vanilla and spicy note. A soft, pleasant mouth feel with nuances of cherry, plum and spice. Pairs beautifully with all roasted red meats and aged cheeses.
